Three ways owners use this section

The first is diagnostic. Something is wrong, the owner does not yet know how wrong, and the guide provides a method for finding out without opening anything. Water intrusion, fiberglass damage and used unit inspection all fall here. Each one gives a sequence of checks that can be performed with a flashlight, a moisture meter and an hour of patience, and each one is explicit about the point at which the checking should stop and a professional inspection should start.

The second is financial. An estimate exists, a claim is open, or a decision between two repair strategies is pending, and the owner needs to understand what the numbers describe. Reading an estimate, documenting a claim and the several repair against replace questions live here. These are the guides worth reading with the actual document in the other hand, because they are written to be checked against a real page rather than absorbed in the abstract.

The third is preventive. Nothing is wrong yet and the owner wants to keep it that way. Membrane selection, house power planning, drop off preparation and summer storage sit in this group.
