Owners rarely arrive knowing what to call the problem. They arrive with a symptom: a stain on the ceiling, a slide that stopped halfway, a soft floor by the door, a bubble in the sidewall, a smell that appears when the water pump runs. Translating a symptom into a repair category is genuinely difficult from the owner's side of it, because the same symptom can point to three completely different departments depending on what is behind the panel.

Water Is Behind More Symptoms Than Anything Else
If a single failure mode accounts for the largest share of recreational vehicle repair, it is water entering the envelope. It rarely announces itself where it enters. Water follows framing, runs along wiring looms, and appears at whatever low point it reaches first, which can be many feet from the actual penetration. That is why a stain, a soft spot and a musty smell are all the same investigation rather than three separate ones.
Tracing it requires moisture metering across a grid, not a spot reading, plus inspection of every penetration upstream of the wet area. Sometimes the source is obvious: a cracked lap sealant bead around a vent. Sometimes it is a window frame that has been weeping for years or an awning rail fastener that backed out. The repair only becomes definable once the source is confirmed, which is why an evaluation precedes a quote on any water complaint.

Body and Structure Complaints
Anything involving the exterior shell, the framing behind it or the geometry of the vehicle sits in the body and structural group. Collision damage of any severity, cracked or punctured fiberglass, dented aluminum siding, compartment doors that no longer latch or sit flush, entry doors that bind, and windshield or window damage all belong here. So does the less obvious category of a vehicle that has started closing doors unevenly, which frequently means the structure has moved.
Structural symptoms are the ones most worth taking seriously early. A slide that has become harder to run, a door gap that changed, or a crack appearing at the corner of a window opening are all indications that load is being carried somewhere it was not designed to go. Those get measured rather than adjusted, because adjusting a symptom of frame deflection just moves the problem to the next weakest point in the assembly.
Roof, Slide and Awning
These three share a category because they are the moving and weather exposed parts of the envelope. Roof complaints range from a torn membrane and failed sealant to a full replacement after hail or a low clearance strike. Slide complaints range from a motor that hums without moving to a room that has dropped out of parallel and is grinding its seals. Awning complaints cover torn fabric, bent arms, failed motors and rails that have pulled from the sidewall.
The reason to group them is that they interact. A slide that is out of adjustment tears its own topper. A failing awning rail leaks into the wall the slide is mounted in. A roof edge that has lifted lets water into the slide opening header. Diagnosing any one of the three usually involves looking at the other two, which is easier when they are handled by the same shop rather than by three vendors on three appointments.

Interior, Electrical and Plumbing
Interior work covers cabinetry, countertops, wall and ceiling panels, flooring, upholstery and the water damage restoration that frequently comes with them. Electrical splits into twelve volt house circuits, shore power and inverter systems, solar, batteries and generators. Plumbing covers fresh water, waste, water heaters and fixtures, and it sits next to appliance and rooftop air conditioning service because those systems share space and share failure modes.
Symptoms in this group are usually specific enough to route directly. Lights that dim when the pump runs point at twelve volt distribution or battery condition. A refrigerator that cools on shore power but not on propane points at the burner and flue. An air conditioner that runs constantly without cooling points at airflow before it points at refrigerant. Diagnostic time bills at the posted diagnostic rate with a one hour minimum, credited against an authorized repair.
How to Get a Useful Answer Before Driving Over
The email that produces a useful response contains four things: photographs of the problem from far enough back to show context and close enough to show detail, the year, make, model and floor plan of the unit, a description of when the symptom appears rather than only what it looks like, and whether an insurance claim is involved. When the symptom appears matters enormously. A leak that only shows after rain and a leak that only shows after using the shower are different repairs entirely.
From that, the shop can usually confirm whether the work fits the scope, indicate which category it falls into, and give an honest picture of scheduling. What it cannot do is price a water intrusion or a structural complaint from photographs, because the extent is by definition not visible.
