Trailers get used harder than almost anything else on the road and inspected less. They carry loads they were not always designed for, spend their lives outdoors, and are frequently maintained only when something stops working. That combination produces a predictable set of failures: cracked frame welds, sagging crossmembers, rotted floors, torn skins at the lower edges, ramp doors that no longer close square, and wiring that has been repaired with wire nuts and tape more than once.
The distinction worth drawing at the start is between structural trailer work and chassis service. This shop repairs the frame, the body, the floor, the doors and the equipment mounted to a trailer, and performs the welding and fabrication that supports all of it. Brake, bearing and suspension component service and any form of commercial safety inspection are separate categories handled by other providers. Simply running a bead over a crack traps the defect and it reappears. On aluminum trailers the process differs again, since aluminum cracks and fatigues on a different curve and needs a different joining approach entirely.

Floors, Decking and the Damage Underneath
Trailer floors take the abuse directly. Wood decking rots from the underside where road spray and standing water reach it, and the top surface hides the condition until something goes through. Plywood floors in enclosed cargo trailers fail first at the rear near the ramp opening and along the walls where water runs down the interior skin. Equipment trailers with steel decking corrode from underneath at the crossmember contact points where moisture is trapped.
Replacement means pulling the deck, inspecting and repairing the crossmembers exposed beneath it, treating corrosion, and installing new material rated for the load. Getting the fastener pattern and the edge sealing right is what determines whether the new floor lasts. On enclosed trailers this is also the moment to address the wall to floor joint, which is where most interior water intrusion originates and is nearly impossible to reach any other time.
Ramp Doors, Gates and Toy Hauler Structure
A ramp door is a structural component that also has to seal and has to carry a vehicle driving over it. Hinges take enormous concentrated load at the rear frame, and when they begin to pull, the door stops sitting square in the opening and the seal fails along the top. Spring assist systems, cables and torsion bars all wear. On toy haulers the ramp doubles as a patio in many designs, which adds hardware and adds ways for the assembly to go out of adjustment.
Repair addresses the hinge mounting structure first, since adjusting a door hung on a distorted frame accomplishes nothing. From there it covers the door skin and framing, the seal, the latch and hardware, and the assist mechanism. On toy haulers the garage area itself deserves inspection at the same time: tie down anchors pull through thin floors, the wall to floor joint takes fuel and solvent exposure, and the ramp opening is the largest structural discontinuity in the unit.

Skins, Roofs and Enclosed Trailer Bodies
Enclosed trailers are built as a frame with skins riveted or bonded to it, which makes them lighter than they look and more vulnerable to edge damage. The bottom edge of a side skin takes road debris and curb contact. Corners take everything. Roof skins on enclosed trailers are usually a thin membrane or a bonded aluminum sheet, and they fail at seams and at any penetration exactly as a recreational vehicle roof does.
Skin replacement can be sectional or full panel depending on damage extent and on whether the rivet pattern and framing behind it are intact. On bonded units the adhesive bond matters as much as the fastener pattern, and a repair that only addresses the visible skin over deformed framing produces a panel that oil cans and looks wrong in raking light. Roof seams get resealed with materials matched to the substrate rather than with whatever is on the shelf.
Wiring, Lighting and Equipment Installation
Trailer wiring lives a hard life. Connectors corrode, ground paths through the frame degrade, and years of improvised patching leave a harness that works intermittently. The most common complaint, lights that work sometimes, is nearly always a ground problem rather than a bulb or a fuse. Correcting it properly means running new grounds to clean metal, replacing corroded connectors, and protecting runs where they pass through the frame.
Equipment installation is the other half of this category. Winch mounts, cabinets, shelving, generator mounts, tie down systems, ladder racks, toolboxes and interior lighting all get fabricated and installed. Anchoring matters most: hardware bolted through thin skin will pull out, so mounting goes into frame members or into backing plates that spread the load.
