A large panoramic glass panel bonded into an aluminum roof structure is a structural element, not a window. Replacement requires cutting the urethane cleanly without damaging the flange, preparing and priming the bonding surface correctly for the substrate, and setting the glass to the specified bead height so the panel finishes flush and the bond develops full strength. Cure time is respected before the vehicle is moved or driven. Rushing that cure is how a bonded panel later develops wind noise.

Roof loads are the other consideration. Rack systems attach at defined points, and exceeding the load or securing something rigidly across the roof puts stress into an area designed for distributed loading. Damage shows as deformation around the mounting point, cracked finish at the attachment, or in serious cases distortion of the roof rail. Repair addresses the structure at the mount and restores the attachment to specification. Load ratings and mounting hardware get restored to the original specification rather than upgraded arbitrarily.

The rear of an SUV body is a large opening surrounded by structure that has to stay square for the gate to seal and latch. A rear impact deforms the aperture, and the symptom the owner notices is a gate that needs an extra push, a rear seal that whistles, or water in the cargo area after rain. Underneath that symptom is a structure that is out of specification and needs measuring rather than adjusting.

Repair measures the aperture in three dimensions against factory specification, restores the surrounding structure with the specified sectioning and joining methods, and only then addresses the gate itself. Hinge and latch geometry get set to the corrected aperture. Seals go on last. Adjusting a liftgate to fit a deformed opening produces a vehicle that closes but continues to leak and load its hinges unevenly. Water testing after the seals are fitted confirms the aperture is genuinely square rather than merely closing.

Sensors, finish and underbody

Driver assistance sensors sit in the bumpers, the windshield area and the mirror housings, and their operation depends on being in the position the vehicle expects. Any repair that removes, replaces or moves a sensor mounting location, or that changes bumper geometry, requires the mounting to be restored precisely and the system checked afterward. Sensor bracket damage that is repaired approximately produces a system that reports no fault and performs poorly.

Finish work follows the same rules as any modern multi stage paint, with the additional constraint that matte options cannot be blended. Underbody protection matters on a vehicle used off pavement: skid plates, shields and their mounting take strikes, and those components get repaired or replaced with mounting restored to structure. Any underbody impact near the pack is handled with the high voltage system isolated first. Shield fasteners and their captive hardware get replaced rather than reused once they have been deformed.

01Is the panoramic roof glass a structural part?
It is bonded into the structure and contributes to how the roof behaves, so it is treated as structural glass rather than as a window. Replacement follows the same discipline as any bonded structural glass: clean urethane removal without damaging the flange, correct surface preparation and priming, specified bead height, and full cure before the vehicle is moved or driven.
02My liftgate does not seal since a rear impact. Can it just be adjusted?
Adjustment is the wrong first step. A gate that stopped sealing after an impact is almost always telling you the aperture moved. Measuring the opening in three dimensions against specification shows how far and where. The structure gets corrected, then hinge and latch geometry is set to the corrected aperture, and seals go on last. Adjusting to a deformed opening leaves the underlying problem in place.
03Do driver assistance sensors need attention after bumper repair?
Yes, whenever a repair moves, replaces or disturbs a sensor mounting location or changes bumper geometry. Mounting has to be restored precisely, because a bracket that is close but not correct produces a system that behaves poorly without reporting a fault. Restoration and verification are documented as part of the repair record rather than assumed.
