Can a hail damaged membrane roof be repaired?
It depends on whether the damage is to the membrane or through it. Scattered surface bruising on an otherwise sound EPDM sheet with intact decking underneath can sometimes be left alone or addressed with targeted patching. Once the sheet is punctured in multiple places or the underlying decking has been fractured, the membrane comes off and both get replaced. Half measures here produce a roof that leaks in a pattern nobody can chase.
Aluminum roofs are the friendlier case. Dimpled aluminum can often be worked back with careful pressure and heat, and the seams resealed, which preserves the original material. Fiberglass is the least forgiving because gelcoat fractures under impact and those fractures propagate.
