A truck camper spends its life being loaded, unloaded and shaken. Unlike a trailer it has no axles and no suspension of its own, so every input from the truck bed goes directly into the camper structure. The unit is supported on four jacks when off the truck, and those four brackets are bolted through the sidewalls into framing that also has to carry the cabover section hanging over the truck cab.
That combination creates a specific damage list. Jack bracket areas crack and pull because they concentrate the entire unit weight into four small footprints. Wing walls, the sections that drop down beside the truck bed, get scraped and split when loading is misaligned. The cabover develops the same fatigue cracking as a Class C overhang, and the front nose seam leaks at highway speed because it faces straight into the wind.

Jack brackets and the load path through the sidewall
Jack brackets bolt to the sidewall through a reinforced area of the frame, typically a doubled stud or a steel plate embedded in the wall. The whole camper hangs from these four points when it is off the truck, which is a load case the wall was never designed to see continuously. Owners who store on jacks for months at a time see the brackets slowly pull, showing as a crack radiating from the bracket in the exterior skin and a soft spot inside the wall.
Repair removes the bracket, opens the wall, and evaluates the backing structure. Where the original reinforcement was a doubled wood stud that has crushed or rotted, it gets replaced with a properly sized member and a load spreading plate. The skin gets rebuilt and refinished afterward. The alternative, which is running a longer bolt into the same tired material, moves the failure inboard instead of solving it. Photographs of the opened wall go into the file so the owner can see what the bracket was actually mounted to.

Wing walls, bed rail contact and loading damage
Wing walls hang down beside the truck bed and clear the bed rails by a small margin. Loading a camper crooked, or driving with a shifted unit, puts the wing wall against the bed rail and grinds it. Damage runs from surface scuffing through to a split panel with crushed framing behind it. Because wing walls are thin sections at the outer edge of the structure, a split there frequently opens a path for water into the wall cavity.
Repair replaces damaged framing in the wing wall, rebuilds the panel with matching material, and re establishes the clearance. Where the truck bed geometry contributed, the mounting arrangement gets reviewed so the camper sits centered and level. Bed rail contact damage is often accompanied by damage at the front of the bed, so the front wall lower edge and the underside of the camper floor get checked at the same time.
Cabover, roof and self contained systems
The cabover on a truck camper cantilevers over the truck cab and carries a bed. It flexes in torsion every time the truck body twists, and the front nose is the leading face of the vehicle in rain. Cracks at the nose corners and leaks at the nose seam are the two most common findings. Repair addresses substrate condition first, replaces compromised framing, rebuilds the laminate and reseals the seam on clean surfaces rather than over old material.
Systems in a truck camper are the same as a small trailer compressed into less space. A fresh tank, a grey tank, a cassette or standard toilet, a two or three way refrigerator, a furnace and often a rooftop cooling unit. Because the interior is tight, water intrusion reaches everything quickly. Systems work is straightforward when the interior is already open for structural repair, so those items get scoped together rather than as a separate visit.
