Dump bodies wear out from the inside. Every load of aggregate, asphalt or demolition debris slides the length of the floor on the way out, and that abrasion thins the plate steel from the front bulkhead back to the tailgate. Thinning is uneven, concentrating where the load first lands and where it turns as it exits, and the first sign is usually a soft spot that dents under a load it used to carry.
The second wear pattern is at the pivots. Rear hinge pins carry the whole body weight every time it is raised, and once the bushings wear the body sits crooked, the tailgate stops sealing and the hoist works at an angle it was not designed for. Cracking then appears at the hoist mounting and at the subframe, which is the point where a maintenance item becomes a structural repair.

Floors, sidewalls and abrasion
Measuring a dump body floor is the first step, because appearance is a poor guide. Plate that looks serviceable can be well under its original thickness in the wear lane. Thickness readings taken on a grid across the floor show where material has gone and whether the loss is general or concentrated. That map determines whether the answer is a partial floor replacement, a full floor, or a liner installed over sound plate to stop further loss.
Sidewalls fail differently. They dent from loading, they crack at the top rail where the body has flexed with an unbalanced load, and they corrode at the bottom where material sits against the floor to wall joint. Repair straightens or replaces panels, rebuilds the top rail where it has cracked, and re establishes the floor to wall weld so the joint is continuous. Abrasion resistant liner material can be added in the wear zones during the same visit.

Hoist mounting, subframe and hinge pins
The hoist applies its entire lifting force through two mounting points, one on the subframe and one on the body. Those mounts crack when the body is raised on uneven ground, when a load sticks and then releases suddenly, or simply from cycle count. Repair is not a matter of welding over the crack. The area gets cleaned, the crack is drilled at the tip, the weld is ground out and rebuilt with proper preparation, and a doubler is designed in where the original section was undersized.
Rear hinge pins and bushings carry the body weight through every cycle. Worn bushings let the body shift laterally as it rises, which puts a twisting load into the hoist and misaligns the tailgate. Rebuilding replaces pins and bushings to correct fit, repairs the hinge ear where the bore has gone oval, and checks that both sides are on a common axis. A body that pivots true stops damaging everything downstream of it.
Tailgates, cab shields and finish
Tailgate hardware takes impact from every load and it is usually the first thing an operator complains about. Latch mechanisms bind, air or cable release linkage seizes, and the upper pivot pins wear until the gate hangs unevenly and spills material. Repair rebuilds pivot points, replaces latch components, straightens the gate frame where it has bent, and adjusts the linkage so the gate releases cleanly and seals along the full perimeter when closed.
The cab shield protects the cab from material coming over the front bulkhead and it takes strikes that would otherwise hit the roof. Bent shields and cracked mounting brackets are routine. Repair straightens or replaces the shield and rebuilds the mounting into sound structure. Refinishing follows, with preparation and coating selected for a vehicle that will be abraded and washed constantly rather than parked in a showroom. Edges and weld seams get coated first, because that is where a finish fails on an abrasion body.
