Box bodies are built to a formula that has not changed much in decades. Vertical posts at intervals along each side, horizontal rails at the top and bottom, roof bows across the top, skin on the outside and plywood or hardwood on the floor. That construction is durable and, importantly, repairable section by section, which is why a box body typically outlasts two chassis if it is maintained.
Damage arrives from three directions. Overhead strikes crush the front roof edge or tear the roof skin. Side contact in alleys and parking structures bends posts and splits skin along the seam. Loading operations beat up the rear frame, the door track and the threshold. On a truck used for moving or route delivery, the interior takes a fourth kind of damage from cargo shifting against the walls and floor.

Posts, rails and skin
A side impact on a box body rarely damages only what is visible. The post takes the load, deforms, and pulls at its connections to the top rail and the bottom rail. Skin splits along the rivet or fastener line. Repair therefore starts by removing skin over the affected bays so the frame members can be inspected directly. Deformed posts get cut out and replaced with matching section, and the rail connections get rebuilt with correct fastening rather than reused holes.
Skin replacement varies with the body type. Aluminum sheet over posts gets replaced panel by panel with fresh fasteners into sound material and seam sealing at the laps. Fiberglass reinforced panel bodies get scarfed and bonded sections where the core is intact, or full panel replacement between posts where it is not. Either way, the finished surface has to be flat enough that a lettered graphic does not telegraph the repair.

Rear frame, roll up door and threshold
The rear frame is the most abused part of a box truck. Forklift tines, pallet jacks, dock plates and impatient backing all hit the same twelve inches of structure. The frame gets bent, the door track distorts at the bottom, and the threshold plate lifts. Once the track is out of alignment the door binds at the bottom of its travel, and drivers force it, which bends slats and elongates hinges further up the curtain.
Repair works from the frame outward. The rear frame gets straightened or sectioned with matching extrusion, the track is replaced where it is deformed, and the threshold plate is rebuilt and fastened into sound structure. Then the door itself gets attention: individual slat replacement, hinge and roller replacement as a set, and torsion spring adjustment or replacement to suit the door weight. The door is cycled repeatedly before the truck is released.
Floors, liftgates and interior protection
Box truck floors are usually hardwood strips or laminated plywood over steel or aluminum crossmembers. They fail from moisture entering at the rear threshold and from point loading by pallet jack wheels. A soft floor is not just an inconvenience; the floor ties the two sides of the body together at the bottom, so a rotten floor lets the body spread. Replacement removes the covering, treats or replaces corroded crossmembers, and installs new material fastened to a proper schedule.
Liftgate mounting is the other structural item. A gate hangs off the rear frame and applies a large moment every cycle. Cracking at the mounting plates and at the frame extension is common on high cycle vehicles. Repair inspects the mounting structure, rebuilds cracked welds with proper preparation, and adds reinforcement where the original arrangement was marginal. Interior scuff band and wall liner repair follows so cargo does not damage the rebuilt structure immediately.
