An insulated body is a sandwich. Two thin skins with foam between them, bonded so the whole assembly acts as a single stiff panel while blocking heat transfer. Everything that makes a reefer body work also makes it unforgiving to repair badly. A puncture that is patched on the outside and left wet inside becomes a saturated section of foam that conducts heat, adds weight and never dries.
Damage on these bodies is usually caused by what happens inside. Pallet corners puncture the liner, hand trucks gouge the lower wall, and forklift tines split the panel at the rear. Once the liner is breached, moisture from the load and from wash downs enters the foam. Over months the foam saturates, the panel loses insulation value, and the refrigeration unit runs longer to hold temperature, which shows up as a fuel and maintenance cost long before anyone inspects the wall.
Food distribution and produce operations moving through the Eastvale and Mira Loma industrial corridor keep these units working hard. The truck comes roughly twenty miles to the Yorba Linda facility and the work happens in shop, where a panel repair can cure at a controlled temperature. Scope is body, paint, structural and equipment mounting. Engine and drivetrain service is not performed.

Panels, foam saturation and proper repair
Repairing an insulated panel correctly means dealing with the core, not just the skin. The damaged area gets opened, the wet or crushed foam gets cut out back to dry material, and the cavity is filled with replacement insulation before the skins are restored. Skipping that step leaves a saturated pocket that continues to wick moisture outward and creates a cold spot the refrigeration unit fights forever. Weight gain from waterlogged foam is the quiet cost that shows up on every load.
Skin restoration depends on the body construction. Fiberglass reinforced panel bodies get a scarfed and bonded repair with the joint backed inside the panel. Aluminum skinned bodies get sectioned with new sheet and sealed laps. In both cases the interior liner is restored with material and a joint detail suited to wash downs and food contact. A repair that leaves a raised seam inside will be caught by the next pallet and torn open again.

Duct floors, T rails and the lower wall
The floor of a reefer body is typically an extruded aluminum T rail section that lets return air travel underneath the load. Those extrusions get crushed by pallet jack wheels and by dropped freight, and once a channel is flattened the air path is blocked in that lane. Damage also opens the joint between floor and wall, which is exactly where wash water collects. Repair replaces damaged extrusion sections and rebuilds the wall to floor joint with a sealed detail.
The lower wall takes the most abuse in the whole body. Hand truck wheels, pallet corners and stacked product hit the same eighteen inches on both sides. Many bodies carry a scuff liner there, and where it is missing or worn through, adding or replacing it is the difference between repairing the wall once and repairing it every year. Scuff liner replacement gets fitted so its top edge is protected rather than presenting an exposed lip.
Doors, gaskets and unit mounting
A reefer door has to seal continuously around a large opening while being opened dozens of times a day. Gaskets flatten, hinges wear until the door drops, and the cam lock hardware loses adjustment so the door pulls tight at the latch and stands open at the top. The diagnostic is straightforward: close the door on a strip of paper at several points around the perimeter and see where it pulls free. Repair replaces gaskets, rebuilds hinge points and resets the cam hardware.
The refrigeration unit hangs on the front bulkhead and applies weight and vibration to that panel continuously. Cracking around the mounting flange, corrosion at the fasteners and separation of the bulkhead skin around the unit are all common. Repair addresses the bulkhead structure, restores the mounting with correct backing, and reseals the penetrations for hoses and wiring so the insulated envelope stays intact. Mounting and structural work is in scope; refrigeration mechanical service is not.
